Return to Beyond Postures Yoga, Baltimore, Maryland

Dianne Mekelburg, M.Ed., E-RYT

Dianne brings a deep respect for the uniqueness of each person to her work. She  has a Bachelor of Science in Human Growth and Development and a Masters Degree in Education.  Her approach is inspired and informed by both Western and Eastern views of personal growth and well being. She is currently studying Psychosynthesis which offers an integrated blend of both perspectives, and a Humanistic, person-centered orientation to individual and group work.

Dianne runs a private practice for yoga and yoga therapy from her studio Beyond Postures, in Baltimore Maryland, and the Belfast Yoga And Retreat Center located on midcoast Maine in the Belfast/Penobscot Bay area.

Dianne has a creative and intuitive as well as a traditionally informed approach to her teaching and healing practices. She leads gentle mindfulness-oriented yoga classes drawing on a blend of various styles including Kripalu, Anusara, Iyenga, Sivananda, Satyananda, Somatic, Feldenkrais, Ahimsa, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Kundalini, Meditation and Psychosynthesis. She facilitates meditation classes, retreats and workshops with an emphasis on restorative practices, analytical and contemplative meditation, self-awareness, and personal growth.

She is the past Owner/Director of the Ahimsa Yoga Center in Baltimore, Maryland: 2002 to 2007 (now the Baltimore Yoga Village).

She is an experienced, registered, dual certified Yoga teacher in Hatha and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy styles, and she is a Yoga Therapy Practitioner certified in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Group Facilitator with Karen Hasskarl and Elissa Cobb at PRYT, and Thai Assisted Yoga Therapy with Kam Thye Chow at Lotus Palm.

Dianne completed an 18 month course of study in Practical  Ayurveda, Marma Therapy, and Pulse Diagnosis with Dr. Rama Kant  Mishra and has studied with Dr. Vasant Lad, founder of The Ayurvedic Institute in NM, at Ananda Ashram and at the Kripalu Yoga and Healing Center. 2005 -2006.

Her meditation and Yoga Nidra training derives from the Swami Satyananda Bihar School in programs with Swami Muktidharma from New Zealand, and Swami Shankardev Sawarswati, founder of Big Shakti, from Australia.

Dianne has taken mind-body facilitated healing programs in Conscious Body, a body dialogue technique that accesses disowned aspects of ourselves and their relationship to symptoms, and she has completed level 1 certification from the International Alliance of Healthcare Educators in Heart Centered Therapy, (an approach to healing trauma) with Alaya Chikly.

Dianne currently studies and integrates psychosynthesis into her practices. Psychosynthesis (developed by Dr. Roberto Assagioli, 1888-1974), is a process that has its roots in psychoanalysis and the need to be aware of what and how unconscious content may interfere with our contentment and happiness in life, plus it includes integrating our inherent transpersonal nature - our sense of having a meaning or purpose in life.  Psychosynthesis is a theoretical approach that can be applied in a number of different contexts beyond the clinical.  Dianne views the application of psychosynthesis from the perspective of a positively oriented (non-pathologizing), guided, mentorship (or sponsorship) of personal and transpersonal growth and healing. In November 2009 she completed a foundational course in psychosynthesis personality theory, psychosynthesis developmental theory and psychosynthesis practice through the
Psychosynthesis Palo Alto program with Ann Gila.  The Psychosynthesis Palo Alto program is a scholarly and contemporary approach developed by both Ann Gila and the late John Firman and includes work in: inner dialogue, subpersonalities, disidentification, childhood history, authentic unifying centers, and Self-realization. Dianne has also completed a year at the Synthesis Center and is now studying with Molly Young Brown and with the International Institute for Humanistic Studies.
