THAI YOGA THERAPY: The First Yoga Therapy Practice!!! (Thai Yoga Massage, Thai Assisted Yoga) Call to schedule a Private Session: 410-409-2295 1 1/2 hr -$75 - 2 hr: $95 The ultimate experience in deep body tension release!
Thai Yoga Massage Therapy is not a ‘massage’ in the popular sense. The client is fully clothed, it is performed on a mat on the floor, and there is no kneading of muscles. While being held in a yoga posture, sometimes using props like a bolster so that the client can more deeply relax, the practitioner uses a rhythmic rocking motion to gently lean into points along the energy lines that run through the body. The practitioner may use his or her thumbs, palms, elbows, forearms, feet or knees. This allows the practitioner to sense points of tension and tightness so that the practitioner can meet the unique needs and comfort level of the individual. In the practice at Beyond Postures, I also integrate the knowledge of Ayurveda and different constitutional types to completely customize the session to respond to any current imbalances the client may have. The result is that physical and concurrent mental, emotional and spiritual energy blocks are opened. Held tensions are released creating a free flow of balanced energy and an enhanced state of well-being. Physiologically there is an overall cleansing of toxins from the lymphatic System, joints and muscles resulting in less stiffness and pain. The overall effect is a profound sense of centered well-being, peacefulness, rejuvenation and restoration. During the session many clients experience a state of Yoga Nidra, a very restorative and deep healing form of relaxed consciousness. No prior yoga experience is required.
This practice at Beyond Postures comes from the teachings and approach of the Lotus Palm School of Thai Yoga Massage, a loving-kindness practice employing yoga postures along with the knowledge of energy lines in the body. It was developed by an Ayurvedic (Eastern Medicine) doctor, Jivaka Kumarbhacha, in India over 2000 years ago as a response to the bodily aches and pains of the monks at the temple who sat for long periods of time in meditation. As such, it combines the science of Ayurveda with yoga and with the underlying principle of “metta” – a Buddhist principle for loving kindness. It gets to the heart of what is behind any yogic based healing practice: compassion. The effect of a compassionate presence, along with the knowledge of how energy (prana) moves in the body and yoga postures, is subtle and deep healing. It is a healing practice that is worldwide and is a routine form of health care throughout Thailand. |
